img_4862

Yoga and massage in the early months after birth can be at the heart of your postnatal recovery and your baby’s delight and comfort. This course of four sessions, run by Lynn Murphy at the Active Birth Centre, is supportive and nurturing, and will set you up with skills you’ll find useful now and for months or years into the future.

The sessions begin with baby massage and movement for optimal development. You will develop real skills here on how to handle your baby confidently, helping them to relax more fully as well as discovering how to support them developmentally. The massage is followed by tea, were you will have the opportunity to get to know others in the group, and share your experiences, as well as discussing many issues relevant to your new life with your baby as well as looking after your wellbeing and rehabilitation. This is a wonderful way of learning and increasing your own confidence.

Lynn works with awareness of your needs at this time, after tea there will be a gentle yoga session with a focus on easing aches and pains and releasing tiredness and tension, expertly guided so that you can go at a pace that suits you, and work with your baby alongside you. Lynn will help  you focus on and begin to strengthen the ‘core’ muscles of your pelvic floor and abdomen, and show you how best to support and strengthen your joints. With awareness of the breath threaded in, these sessions will nourish you both physically and emotionally.

When to best attend? This course is ideal for your baby’s early months, between 6 to 12 weeks approx on starting the course, usually no earlier as before that babies are often not ready. If you have had a caesarean section, it is best to start after you have had your six week check up. Talk with Lynn if you are unsure about when it is best for you to begin. This is a very popular course so please book early were possible. Towels are provided and you will receive a bottle of organic oil to take home with you.

I got so much out of the new baby & me course, it was great that the class was filled with both first time and second, third and fourth time mums! Having a busy 2 yr old at home, both my baby and I really relished 2 1/2hours to focus on each other in the calm and relaxing environment of the class. Even if my baby was crying or restless before the class as soon as we walked in he would relax and calm down. I will miss that time now the course has finished. But at least I have the massage techniques to practice at home. – Victoria & Maurice

I wanted to thank you, after only two sessions of New Baby and Me, I am seeing a real difference. When Aria awoke post feed at 1:30am last night I resisted my usual urge to head downstairs resigned for a couple of hours of pacing out of bed and, instead, used some of the techniques you’ve taught us to get her back to sleep in our room. After a cuddle and an exchange of smiles, I laid her in her cot and used long dry massage strokes, talking calmly and gradually dimmed the lights. She was asleep within 45mins. My husband even asked this morning whether she woke at all in the night!  – Hannah & Aria

Having done Lynn’s antenatal yoga class throughout my pregnancy, it felt like going home for the Baby and Me course. Taught with gentleness, kindness and a healthy dose of humour, the course was just what my daughter and I needed in those vital first months of getting to know each other. I’d highly recommend it for any new mum. – Shamita & Leela

This was the best thing I did once my baby was born. Each week, you showed us new and different ways to interact, calm, and comfort our babies. Amit loves his daily massage, and I know it makes the bond between us stronger. Thank you also for the discussions on a number of relative issues, I found them invaluable. I would tell every new mum to come to your class, it has been fantastic. – Bandini & Amit

After the course you continue with Baby & me  Mamma & me and Baby Massage classes with Lynn.

Private Sessions: Lynn also offers home visits  to introduce baby massage in the early weeks after birth, as well as sessions for NCT groups in their own home.
