Course Description:
Children don’t come with a manual but this course will help you to understand their behaviour and become more empathic to their needs and emotions. This will enable you to build a happier, stronger and more supportive relationship and give them a greater sense of security and confidence, not just through their childhood and adolescence but for a lifetime. This course makes Attachment Parenting theory accessible and applicable to parents of toddlers and young children and helps them understand their children’s use of them as a secure base from which they can explore the world around them, as well as their parental role as a ‘safe haven’ in times of distress. Parents will also be helped to recognise and sensitively respond to their children’s behaviour/needs and help them regulate their emotions. In addition they will have the chance to explore their strengths as parents, but also develop an awareness of how their own experiences of having being parented can influence the way they respond now to their children.By helping parents to understand some of the basics of neuroscience and how the young brain develops through relationship we can come to appreciate how the quality of the caregiver-child relationship shapes behaviour. Decades of research shows that secure children have greater empathy and self-esteem, better relationships with their parents and peers, are better prepared to start school and better able to handle their emotions than children who are insecure.
