The retreat overlooks a vast lake in a designated wildlife reserve and is perfect for swimming, peaceful walks, bird watching, canoeing and fishing. There is a swimming pool at Basunti, open at all times. Optional excursions to places of interest in the area may be arranged outside of tuition time.
Participants are welcome to extend their stay at Basunti, subject to availability and by private arrangement with the management.
Basunti is within a few hours drive of many places of interest to travellers in Northern India including The Bathu Temples, the Golden Temple in Amritsar, and Daramsala, where the residence in exile and temple of H.H. the Dalia Lama can be visited. Extension visits and tours either before or after the retreat can be arranged through the Basunti management on request.
Basunti is in Himachal Pradesh’s green Kangra Valley close to the border with the Punjab.
The nearest international airport is Amritsar from where there is a 3 hour drive by jeep or luxury car (most European flights will necessitate flying via Delhi or via a Middle-Eastern city). We recommend that you book all fights (international and ongoing domestic) with the same carrier so that in the event of delays or flight cancellations the airline will ensure that you reach your destination.
The nearest domestic airport is Dharamsala which is currently served by one or two daily flights from Delhi. From Dharamsala there is a 2.5-3 hour drive to Basunti.
Chakki Bank and Pathankot are the nearest rail stations from where there is a 1.5 hour drive by jeep or luxury car.
Transfers to/from Amritsar or Dharamsala and to/from the nearest rail stations will be arranged and quoted for you on request by our host (Basunti). Sharing cars will minimize costs and should be arranged well ahead of time.
Our hosts at Basunti can arrange, on request and well in advance, bespoke private tours tailored to meet most needs (either before or after the retreat).
